As a congregation, we all need to express our appreciation to Stewart Varney for arranging the purchase and installation of the new HVAC system in the Fellowship Hall. By doing 100 percent of the labor himself with no cost to the church, he has saved us thousands of dollars. After receiving several different bids for replacing the old, non-functioning unit, he volunteered to order a high efficiency unit and install it himself at a cost of less than half of the lowest estimate received.

That said, the final cost is coming in somewhere in the neighborhood of $6,400. So……what we are asking you to prayerfully consider is making a contribution in the form of a “13th Payment.” Those of you who have been around a while might remember we used this option as a way to pay off the mortgage on the church. Basically the “13th Month” payment is an extra giving unit of the amount you contribute monthly. If you chose to participate, you can just indicate on your check the amount you want to apply to the 13th Month payment.

We have said before that Bates givers are very generous and we know we are asking a lot of some of you who may be stretching to contribute what you do give. We do not want anyone to hurt themselves financially, but we hope that most of you can find a way to at least contribute something above what you are already giving. Sadly but realistically any amount raised beyond the needed amount could go towards additional replacement units, which are mostly all old and not particularly aging gracefully in spite of being well pampered.
